Who We ARE

East and West Appleton is a hamlet in rural Richmondshire, North Yorkshire, smaller than a village and strictly (in Britain) one without a church. The small settlement has no central place of worship, meeting point, village hall, shop or pub and is divided into two parts. A few houses are dotted along mainly private roads or a crossroads, separated from other villages by countryside or farmland. East & West Appleton consist of farms, a racing stable, and a solar farm. Originally residents would have worked there. Now the houses are privately owned, some of which were for workers on the adjoining estate of Hornby Castle.

The House's names often reflect the estate jobs GameKeepers House, The Kennels, Gas House Cottage, and Dairy Cottage.

There are no basic services available to locals.

The parish has no desire to integrate into Tunstall or Catterick. As this would result in residents paying a large precept which would never be spent in Appleton East or West
